In
the beginning… - March 14, 2018
Last
night ended with a spontaneous trip to the Korean Sauna –which was delightful
and relaxing. While I was relaxing in
one of the baths – I met a woman who came over to speak with me. Once she found
out I was from New York she took pride in telling me that her daughter went to
NYU and was living in Chicago right now.
We talked about New York City, about Chicago and about Seoul as a
city. After a brief pause, deep breath
of taking in the relaxing air of the Korean bath, she innocently thought, “What
are your thoughts on Trump?” I inhaled a deep breath!
My
day started with an early morning walk along Olympic Park. All the sculptures and art were beautiful to
look at. I did quickly notice how dry the rivers were. I was told that there
were less ducks and the water was unusually low. The city is so clean and everyone is invested
in keeping it clean.
I
also had been noticing many people walking around with masks on their face.
When I asked about this I was told it’s because of the high level of dust in
the air – more than New York I wondered? But many people believe that it is
from the dust coming over from China. I
must say that I noticed my breathing and my asthma being very aggravated and I
hadn’t been able to figure out what it was that was causing this. But I wonder now if this is the cause.
Class
was fun! Many of the participants are currently in a classroom and it was
difficult to begin on time! But we had a wonderful class beginning with
ensemble building, introduction to drama and an overview of our plan! I am
looking forward to devising a beautiful piece of theatre with them!
After
class I was able to take a delightful trip to spend the night with my
friend. We went out for dinner and sake
and found ourselves catching up and talking about the spirituality involved
with teaching!
Good teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths
pure theatre.
