Theatre is Transformative - March 15
Class last night was really fun. It was magical in fact. Theatre is magical. Today we did a mini version of what we plan
to rehearse and devise as the weeks go on.
We used stories/memories that they were willing to share. In about an
hour we devised a piece that we were ready to share as a whole class.
Theatre is transformative.
I started to think about the power of
theatre. These teachers I’m working with are not necessarily drama people.
While some of them may have used some creative drama in their classes thanks to
the college I am at, IGSE, or a few have participated in high school drama
club, many have had no drama experience and considering that the piece they
created was a huge big step.
Theatre is transformative.
In terms of my own experiences, today
was the day I could not eat any more rice.
While the food has been so spectacular while I’ve been here, all the
meals include rice and I couldn’t eat any more. I felt like a huge rice ball.
So today was the day I did not eat any rice.
Instead I had a lovely quesadilla for breakfast with some American
coffee or a latte and for dinner a Panini with four cheeses and some bacon.
Both meals were delicious. In there somewhere, I had some oranges that were so
sweet! I also took a walk/run through
Olympic Park and looked at all the statues and art that is displayed in the
park. Beautiful. It was a beautiful day as well and the combination of the
light on these sculptures was refreshing.
I also purchased my metro card with the
intention of using it today. But it is raining and as of now I’m sitting inside
and writing. I hope that the weather
clears up in a bit so I can go out.
That’s it for now!
Theatre is a form of
knowledge; it should and can also be a means of transforming society. Theatre
can help us build our future, rather than just waiting for it.
